King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is the current monarch of Bahrain, having ascended to the throne on March 6, 1999, following the death of his father, King Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. Born on January 28, 1950, King Hamad is a member of the Al Khalifa family, which has ruled Bahrain since the late 18th century.
