Jack Dorsey grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. Dorsey was raised Catholic, Dorsey's uncle was a priest in Cincinnati. Dorsey attended Catholic Bishop DuBourg High School, then attended Missouri University of Science and Technology, and then transferred to New York University.
At the university, the idea of creating Twitter emerged. Twitter's origins stem from a discussion event hosted by a podcast company called Odeo.
Dorsey came up with the idea of using short message services to communicate with a small group. Work on the project began on March 21, 2006, when Dorsey published his first Twitter message at 9:50 PM PST. The message reads: "just setting up my twttr".

Dorsey's simple idea to change the way he communicated socially emerged when he was 24 years old. An idea that eventually turned into the Twitter we know today. Dorsey founded Twitter with two of his friends, Biz Stone and Evan Willliams.

Downey already showed an interest in software development at the age of 14 and for creating open source software applications related to taxi routes and delivery couriers.
After attending the University of Missouri and in New York, he moved to California. At that time, instant messaging really started to take off, with the hugely popular AOL Instant Messenger service.
Dorsey saw this and wondered if he could incorporate his initial idea of providing a status messaging service. "What if you could share your status with all your friends really easily, so they know what you're doing, but you didn't want to have to write an entire blog entry or Live Journal entry?"
As time went on and Jack was busy working on a web-based delivery solution, he considered whether SMS text messages could be incorporated into the concept of interactive status messages.
Furthermore, Evan Williams is a former Google executive, providing investment funds and, along with Dorsey and Stone, the operations of Twitter, Inc. In early 2006 they were ready, but didn't really have an active launch strategy.
In August 2006, twitter was launched. Twitter is a microblogging service that is different from blog services such as Blogger, WordPress and Multiply, Twitter has a limit of 140 characters per post, for that Twitter is called microblogging.

If the writing activities carried out by bloggers now have their own verb, namely blogging, so do the activities carried out by Twitter users.
In 2008, Jack Dorsey was named by the MIT Technology Review TR35 as one of the 35 most shining innovators in the world under the age of 35. Additionally, in 2012, Dorsey was awarded the “Innovator of the Year Award” by The Wall Street Journal.
