The Dutch national flag, also known as the "Orange-Blue Flag", consists of three horizontal stripes in red, white and blue. The colors on the flag were officially adopted in 1937, although the history of the Dutch flag itself is quite long.

The origins of the Dutch flag can be traced back to the 16th century, when William I of Orange, a national hero of the Netherlands, introduced the orange-blue flag as the pride of the Netherlands and the House of Orange. The orange color represents the House of Orange, while the blue color represents unity and freedom.

However, in the 17th century, red was included in the flag as a symbol of the Dutch national struggle. Over the decades, the Dutch flag became a tricolor consisting of orange, white and red. However, in the early 19th century, the orange color was replaced by a lighter red and the current Dutch tricolor red, white, and blue flag was finally adopted.
