Shord Nakhod


This typical Afghan food is called shor nakhod. This dish is a simple chickpea and potato salad. The food is enriched with a tangy coriander sauce.

Shor nakhod is made with cooked chickpeas and boiled potatoes then combined with chickpea broth and a mixture of garlic, fresh coriander, white vinegar and salt.

Dressings for these foods are enriched with limes, green chilies, walnuts, scallions, or red chutney. This chickpea and potato dish is generally consumed cold.

In addition, this food is usually served as a savory snack or appetizer. Shor nakhod is also used as a companion to grilled meat and fish dishes.

Mastawa


This typical Afghan winter meal consists of short-grain rice, chickpeas and salted dry mutton called lahndi. All the ingredients are then simmered together in an aromatic broth flavored with garlic, onions, coriander, turmeric and mint.

They used twigs to prick these pieces and roasted them over a fire. This cooking event is usually done when they supervise their livestock.

Lavash is a thin flatbread that is generally made in a tandoor or tawa so that it retains its original taste. This bread can be made soft or hard depending on the choice of the maker and the shape can also vary.

There are people who like to make it in a rectangular shape. While there are others who make it in the form of a circle and there is a square. This bread is eaten with spicy meat and served with cheese.

Lavash is a traditional dish and is mostly served at weddings. According to the locals, lavash will bring prosperity and fertility to newly married couples.
