ASEAN is an organization consisting of a union of countries in Southeast Asia.

Indonesia is one of the countries that are also members of the ASEAN organization.

ASEAN was founded on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand which was attended by 10 countries in Southeast Asia.

The meaning of the ASEAN symbol is:

The ASEAN emblem symbolizes stability, peace, unity and dynamics. The colors of the blue, red, white and cat emblem represent the main colors of the emblems of all ASEAN member states.

1. Blue color symbolizes peace and stability.

2. Red represents courage and dynamism.

3. White denotes purity.

4. Yellow symbolizes prosperity.

The rice stalk in the middle is used as a symbol that represents the dream of the Founding Fathers of ASEAN.

The circle around the rice symbol symbolizes the unity of the ASEAN countries.

Not only philosophical, the meaning of the ASEAN symbol shows the strong character of the country in Southeast Asia.

The ASEAN symbol was originally in the form of six bunches of rice which symbolized the six founders.

The five founding countries and their initiators are:

1. Indonesian Foreign Minister Adam Malik

2. Thai Foreign Minister Thanat Khoman

3. Singapore Foreign Minister King Ratnam

4. Philippines Foreign Minister Narsisco Ramos

5. Malaysia Deputy Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak

While the last bunch of rice symbolizes Brunei Darussalam which joined on January 7, 1984.

ASEAN colors used to be white, turquoise and golden brown but when Vietnam joined 28 Juku 1995, there was a proposal to change the ASEAN logo.
