Ir. H. Joko Widodo or more familiarly called Jokowi was born in Surakarta, Central Java, on June 21, 1961, Jokowi is the 7th President of Indonesia who took office on October 20, 2014. He was elected with Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla in the 2014 Presidential Election. Jokowi served as Governor of DKI Jakarta from 15 October 2012 to 16 October 2014 accompanied by Basuki Tjahaja Purnama as deputy governor. Previously, he was the Mayor of Surakarta (Solo), from 28 July 2005 to 1 October 2012 accompanied by F.X. Hadi Rudyatmo as deputy mayor. Two years of his second period as the Mayor of Solo, Jokowi was appointed by his party, the Indonesia Democratic Party of struggle (PDI-P), to run in the election of the Governor of DKI Jakarta to pair with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).

Joko Widodo Personal Life


Ir. H. Joko Widodo or Jokowi is the eldest child and the only son of four brothers from the couple Noto Mihardjo and Sudjiatmi. Jokowi's younger sisters are named Iit Sriyantini, Ida Yati and Titik Relawati. Actually he has a younger brother named Joko Lukito but died during childbirth.

Before changing his name, Joko Widodo had the first name Mulyono. Jokowi's education began with entering Tirtoyoso 112 Public Elementary School, which is known as a school for the lower middle class.

With the difficulties he was experiencing, to meet school needs and daily pocket money, he was forced to start working as a trader, motorcycle taxi driver, and porter.

When other children use a bicycle to go to school, he chooses to walk. Inheriting the skills of a carpenter from his father, he started working as a sawmill at the age of 12. Little Jokowi has experienced house eviction three times. The eviction affected his way of thinking and later leadership after becoming Mayor of Surakarta when he had to control residents' settlements.

After graduating from elementary school, he continued his education at SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta. When he graduated from junior high school, he had wanted to enter Surakarta 1 Public High School, but failed so in the end he entered Surakarta 6 Public High School.

Jokowi married Iriana in Solo on December 24, 1986, and they were blessed with 3 children, namely Gibran Rakabuming Raka (1988), Kahiyang Ayu (1991) and Kaesang Pangarep (1995).

Study Period and Entrepreneurship


With his academic ability, Jokowi was accepted at the Department of Forestry, Faculty of Forestry, Gajah Mada University. He took advantage of this opportunity to study the structure of wood, its use and technology. Jokowi successfully completed his education with the thesis title "Study of Consumption Patterns of Plywood in End Use in Surakarta Municipality". Apart from studying, he is also active as a member of Mapala silvagama.

After graduating in 1985, he worked for PT Kertas Kraft Aceh State Enterprise and was placed in the Merkusii Pine Forest area in Gayo Highlands, Central Aceh. However, he did not feel comfortable and went home following his wife who was 7 months pregnant.

Jokowi was determined to do business in the wood sector and he worked in the business owned by his uncle, Miyono. In 1988, he ventured to open his own business under the name CV Rakabu, the name was taken from the name of his first child. The business was successful and had ups and downs due to being deceived by orders which were ultimately not paid for. However, in 1990 he revived with a capital loan of Rp. 30 million from his mother.

This furniture business brought Jokowi to meet Micl Romaknan who gave him the nickname Jokowi. With his honesty and hard work, he won trust and was able to travel around Europe. Good city management in Europe inspired Jokowi to implement it in Solo and inspired him to enter politics. Jokowi wants to implement humane leadership and create a friendly city for its inhabitants.

Became Mayor of Surakarta


In 2005, Jokowi was nominated as a candidate for Mayor of Solo by the National Awakening Party and PDI Perjuangan, although he did not have sufficient political experience, he won the election and became mayor of Solo with 36.62% of the vote. After being elected as mayor, Jokowi made arrangements and faced various public refusals to be orderly. Under his leadership the city of Solo underwent changes. In addition, under his leadership, the Batik Solo Trans bus was introduced, rejuvenating various regions, Solo hosted various international events and many others. Because of this achievement, Jokowi was elected Mayor of Solo again in 2010 with a vote of more than 90%.

Become the Governor of DKI Jakarta


Jokowi's success in leading the Solo city made a Golkar figure, Jusuf Kalla, ask Jokowi to run for Governor but he refused, but in the end he accepted and then the PDI Perjuangan Party led by Megawati Soekarno Putri together with the Gerindra Party led by Prabowo Subianto officially carried him in 2012 as a Candidate for Governor of DKI Jakarta is partnered with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).

The official declaration, Jokowi's candidacy as a presidential candidate was made at Gedung Juang 45. Jokowi's candidacy was supported by four supporting parties, namely the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, the NasDem Party, the National Awakening Party and the Hanura Party.


Become the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia


In July 2014, the results of the Indonesian KUPU vote count declared the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla pair as the winner in the 2014 presidential election beating the Prabowo-Hatta Rajasa pair with a difference of 8,421,389 votes.

On October 20, 2014, Jokowi was sworn in as President at the DPR/MPR RI Building. The ceremony marked the official start of Joko Widodo's position as President and Jusuf Kalla as Vice President of Indonesia.

Jokowi began carrying out his new duties as President of the Republic of Indonesia by issuing the Healthy Indonesia Card and Smart Indonesia Card. Meanwhile, in the maritime field, he gave strict instructions to fish thieves in Indonesian waters, namely by sinking ships, completing various abandoned development projects, distributing a thousand more tractors to increase agricultural production, inviting foreign investors with an investment value of 300 trillion rupiah when he gave a speech. in APEC.
